Welcome to my Summer Learning Series Part 6, which is about kids and swimming safety (as well as swimming fun!).
1: SUPERVISION!
Children should not be left alone around water. This does not mean watching your kids from the window. One can drown in shallow water and it only takes seconds. You want to be readily available. It is a good idea for anyone watching children around water to be CPR certified. 2: LEARN TO SWIM! Children over 4 years old should learn to swimming skills for safety reasons. Swimming lessons are great! 3: SUNSCREEN! Don't forget to put on sunscreen BEFORE you go outside in the sun. Please stay hydrated with water as well. You might be swimming in water, but your body still needs to drink some. 4: FLOTATION DEVICES! These are helpful to have around in case of an emergency. I do recommend using a flotation device at all times with young children. Here is what I have used and like in the past...
Now that we have talked some about safety, don't forget to have fun!
