This is the Essential Guide to Reading at Home with Your Kids. Why is it important to read to your kids?
Before Reading- Introduce the book by looking at the cover. Read the title, identify the author and illustrator. Make predictions about what the book is going to be about. During Reading- Continue to ask questions while reading. Make predictions and connections. What is going to happen next? What is the story about? How do you think they felt? Why did he/she do that? Have I had a similar experience? Have I ever felt this way? Have I read a similar story? Who is this story about? Is this character the same or different from the character in another story? Do I know anyone like the character? When does the story take place? Where does the story take place? Do I know of a place like this? After Reading- Reflect on the story as a whole. Allow for personal responses and check predictions. Click on the pictures above to get these after reading spinners! You can also google search "after reading spinners" and print the images. Then use a pencil and paper clip to spin!
